To Produce Safe and Efficient Home Heating
 
Outdoor furnace manufacturers worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on testing standards and with state and local governments on appropriate regulations to prevent and/or correct misuse of outdoor wood furnaces – including burning anything other than the manufacturer's listed fuels and operating with too short of a chimney – to encourage cleaner burning wood furnaces that produce safe and efficient heat.
